Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested Nicholas Muriuki, a suspect linked to the fatal attack of Stanley Mwangi, 40, in Kiamutuira village on Sunday.

Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, Kirinyaga Central Sub-County Police Commander John Torori said Muriuki was apprehended at his hideout after detectives acted on a tip-off. Another suspect, who was also allegedly involved in the attack, is still at large.

According to police, Mwangi was attacked while heading home from Mugaya shopping centre after a night out at a local bar. His brother, Charles Muthii, said he raised an alarm when the attack happened, but by the time people responded, the two suspects had fled.

Muriuki is currently being held at Kerugoya Police Station, while Mwangi’s body has been taken to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Police have intensified efforts to track down the second suspect.
