Political tensions in Meru County have escalated further as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) launched a fresh offensive against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, whose impeachment case is set to be determined by the High Court on Friday 14th 2025.

In a new twist, the MCAs have tabled ouster and censure motions against several County Executive Members (CECMs) serving in Mwangaza’s cabinet. Among those targeted for removal are:

  • County Secretary Kiambi James Thambura
  • CECM Ibrahim Mutwiri Kirimi (Roads)
  • Monica Kathono (Finance)
  • Harriet Makena (Sports)
  • Dickson Munene (Public Service)

The motions were introduced in the Meru County Assembly on Wednesday and Thursday, adding to the ongoing leadership turmoil in the devolved unit.

Meanwhile, Governor Mwangaza awaits a crucial High Court ruling on Friday, which will determine the fate of her impeachment case. She had earlier secured a reprieve in December when Justice Bahati Mwamuye extended interim conservatory orders, allowing her to remain in office despite her impeachment by the Senate.

With the latest developments, the leadership crisis in Meru County appears far from over, as political battles continue to intensify.
