Rwanda has severed diplomatic ties with Belgium and ordered all Belgian diplomats to leave the country within 48 hours, escalating tensions between the two nations.

In a statement issued on Monday, Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation accused Belgium of consistently undermining Kigali in relation to the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In response, Belgium announced that Rwandan diplomats would no longer be welcome in the country, further deepening the diplomatic fallout.

The move marks a significant shift in Rwanda-Belgium relations, with both nations now at odds over their stance on the conflict in eastern DRC, where Rwanda has been accused of supporting the M23 rebel group—allegations Kigali has repeatedly denied.
