Newly sworn-in Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has outlined an ambitious development plan for the county, promising to unite leaders, improve healthcare, and create jobs for the youth.
Speaking during his inauguration ceremony on Monday, Mutuma pledged to work closely with the national government, donors, and private sector to equip cancer centers and fully implement the Cancer Act to enhance research, diagnosis, and treatment.
“We must give hope to our people. We shall operationalize the Cancer Act that was passed by the previous regime,” he stated.
In partnership with Athletics Kenya, he announced plans to revive the Mount Kenya Mountain Running Championship, which raises funds for cancer treatment. Additionally, he promised to develop health tourism by setting up centers of excellence in specialized care.

✅ Fighting HIV & Gender-Based Violence – The county will introduce programs to curb new HIV infections, combat gender-based violence, and reduce teenage pregnancies.
✅ Education & Teenage Mothers Support – Teenage mothers will be given a second chance through education and vocational training opportunities.
✅ Infrastructure & Economic Growth – Mutuma vowed to improve road networks to enhance economic growth and accessibility.
✅ Youth Empowerment & Job Creation – He pledged to revamp the Meru Youth Service, equipping graduates with startup kits to help them launch businesses, targeting the creation of over 1,000 jobs annually.
Governor Mutuma’s leadership comes at a critical time, as he seeks to stabilize the county’s political landscape and deliver on the promises that residents have long awaited.
