The Director of the National Registration Bureau, Aggrey Masai, has announced new regulations for Kenyans applying for national identification documents, following President William Ruto’s directive to waive application fees.
Speaking in Nakuru during the launch of the renewed registration process at Shabab, Masai stated that first-time applicants will now be required to be accompanied by at least one parent before being issued an ID.
Additionally, local administration officers, preferably a Chief, will conduct verification to confirm the parent-child relationship before an application is approved.
Under the new directives, the National Registration Bureau and the government will hold Chiefs legally liable if any non-Kenyan is issued with an identity document.
Masai also confirmed that applicants will now receive their IDs within six days, as the process has been digitized to improve efficiency.
