President William Ruto has opened up about the internal rift within the Kenya Kwanza coalition that ultimately led to the impeachment of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a roundtable interview with media houses on Monday, Ruto revealed that tensions began soon after taking office. He cited Gachagua’s confrontational approach, which resulted in clashes with key allies, including blogger Dennis Itumbi and lawmakers Ndindi Nyoro and Kimani Ichung’wah. The growing hostilities, Ruto said, made it difficult for Gachagua to maintain political support, leading to his eventual removal.
Despite the past conflicts, Ruto downplayed concerns about political tensions ahead of his upcoming nine-county tour of the Mt. Kenya region, set to begin on Tuesday. He emphasized that the tour is intended to update voters on the progress of his administration.
