Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, has dropped three places in the latest FIFA rankings, falling from position 108 to 111 following a poor run of results.

The rankings, released on Thursday, April 3, mark Kenya’s worst position in six years, with the last time the team ranked this low being in February 2024. Over the past six years, the worst ranking for Kenya was 112, recorded in August 2018.

The slide in rankings is largely attributed to the team’s recent struggles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they managed only a draw against Gambia and suffered a 2-1 loss to Gabon at Nyayo Stadium on March 23. Prior to that, the Stars endured a string of draws against South Sudan, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, and Namibia. Their last victory came on January 7 against Tanzania in a friendly match.

Harambee Stars now rank 27th in Africa, trailing regional rivals Uganda (89th) and Tanzania (107th).

While the men’s team struggles, the Harambee Starlets have shown remarkable improvement. They climbed seven places to position 142 globally, thanks to a series of strong performances, including a crucial 1-0 win over Tunisia that secured them a place in the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
