Parliament will conduct the vetting of Cabinet Secretary nominees Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service) and Hanna Cheptumo (Gender) on April 14, 2025.
The two were among the recent Cabinet appointments by President William Ruto. According to a notice from National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge, the vetting process will be overseen by the Committee on Appointments, which will later present its findings to the House.
Ruku, the current Mbeere North MP, is set to appear before the committee at 2:00 pm for his vetting session. He was nominated to replace Justin Muturi, who was dismissed due to a strained relationship with the President.
Cheptumo, who has been nominated for the newly established Gender docket, will be vetted at 4:00 pm. She is the widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, who passed away last month while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Both nominees must provide academic and compliance clearance from institutions including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, Commission for University Education, and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
The public has until April 10, 2025, at 5:00 pm to submit any comments regarding the suitability of the nominees.
