Defence Cabinet Secretary Roselinda Soipan Tuya has deployed officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to support the demolition of an 11-storey building that began sinking earlier this month in Kilifi Corner, Mombasa County.
In an official notice published in the Kenya Gazette on April 7, CS Tuya confirmed the deployment of KDF personnel to assist in the operation, which is scheduled to begin on April 9. The soldiers will provide logistical and technical support to ensure the safe demolition of the building, which poses a serious risk to residents and neighboring properties.
Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir had earlier confirmed that the building’s ground floor had already sunk, raising fears of a total collapse.
The demolition exercise began early on Wednesday and is expected to take about eight hours to complete. KDF will work alongside engineers, security personnel, and emergency response teams to ensure the process is carried out safely and efficiently.
