President William Ruto’s administration is on the verge of securing a multi-billion-dollar agreement with the Chinese government for the construction of a state-of-the-art Foreign Affairs complex in Nairobi. The deal is expected to be formalized during President Ruto’s ongoing five-day state visit to China.

Sources close to the negotiations indicate that President Ruto will meet senior Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping, to finalize the agreement. While the exact financial details remain under wraps, Business Insider Africa estimates that the project will cost several billions of dollars.

Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’Oei, confirmed during an interview in Beijing that the planned complex is among a series of high-profile bilateral agreements set to be inked during the visit. He added that feasibility studies for the construction are currently underway, with discussions still ongoing ahead of the official groundbreaking ceremony.

President Ruto left for China on Monday, April 21, in a mission aimed at deepening Kenya-China relations, boosting trade, and advancing infrastructure development between the two nations. His trip was officially announced by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.
