Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media suggesting that he issued an ultimatum to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga over his political position regarding the government
Through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Speaker Kingi labelled as fake a viral news card that alleged he had called on Odinga to “stop political con games” and clearly declare his stance on working with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The clarification comes after a recent speech Kingi made in Siaya on Sunday, where he urged Kenyans to stop criticising Odinga and instead acknowledge his pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s democratic space.
“A lot of people on social media are criticising Raila Amollo Odinga, but if you study Kenya’s history, the kind of political space we are enjoying today, the kind of democracy we are enjoying as a country—were it not for him—we wouldn’t be here today,” Kingi remarked.
