Millers in Kenya have warned Kenyans that there could be a possible increment in maize and wheat flour prices this comes barely a day after the parliament shut down the bill to increase prices of this commodities.

United Grain Millers Association in a statement said the country is likely to experience hike in prices due to shortage which the country is currently experiencing.

According to the millers the shortage comes as a result of persistent drought as well as reduced flow of maize from the East Africa Community (EAC) and cross border.

The shortage is also attributed to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine as well as the effects of Covid 19 Pandemic. The millers therefor want the government to allow duty free maize from the European Union as well as encourage farmers to release their maize stock.
