Raila spoke during his coronation as an elder by the Njuri Ncheke elders in Meru before addressing a series of meetings in the county.
At the Nchiru shrine in Meru county, Raila was the chief guest in a solemn ceremony where he was installed as elder and received blessings from the community leaders ahead of the election in August.
It’s the biggest show of trust in accordance with the Meru community traditions which has only previously been accorded to the late Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki as well as President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Raila assured the community he will prioritize their economic growth by re-opening previous Miraa markets and sourcing for new ones.
He also promised to set up a manufacturing industry in the country as part of his one product, one county manufacturing plan as well improve Agriculture.
Leaders accompanying him among them Agriculture CS Peter Munya and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi saying they will continue to mobilize support for Raila in the region and ensure he emerges victorious in August.
They accused a section of the political leadership in the Kenya Kwanza alliance of unfairly targeting the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and urged them to focus on peaceful campaigns.
The Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party will today head to Rumuruti, Nanyuki in Laikipia County before their last rally at Ruringu stadium in Nyeri County.
