There was no luck – or rather justice – for Robert Lewandowski to be decorated with the ribbon of the best on the planet in the later years of his career; two years ago, he was prevented by France Football’s decision not to name the best in the most difficult Covid year, while last year the award went to Lionel Messi. All the great trophies with Bayern and seasons with 50+ goals were in vain for the Pole… The French lists and FIFA could not allow themselves another setback and for 2022 they finally chose what was fitting and what was only right: The best footballer on the planet is KARIM BENZEMA!As a reminder, the Royal club reached the final at Saint-Denis through Paris Saint-Germain (round of 16), Chelsea (quarter-finals) and Manchester City (semi-finals), and Benzema scored a total of 10 goals in six games against these giants?!Such dominance against financially – and in every other sense – the most powerful clubs in Europe is unheard of. If only he had played those six games the way he did, he would have deserved this award. And that was just a part of the fairy tale.
