The leadership of the National Assembly has made further changes to committees to balance competing interests that have posed a challenge in their bid to balance the membership.
The changes presided over by Whips Junet Mohamed (Minority) and Sylvanus Osoro (Kenya Kwanza) have seen some MPs moved to new committees, and those who sought chairmanship replaced.
Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa and his Minority counterpart Opiyo Wandayi were also part of the team constituting the committees.
“This is one of the most divisive exercises in any Parliament. It is always not possible to please everybody in the House or place everybody in the committee they desire,” Ichung’wa said.
MPs are expected to vote in plenary this afternoon to approve the new changes, an Order Paper for Wednesday sitting shows.
In the changes, Nominated MP Sabina Chege has been posted to the Agriculture committee to replace Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Zainab.
Chege was initially posted to the Health Committee, a slot that would now be taken by Lurambi MP Titus Khamala.
Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir has been appointed to the ICT committee to replace Mathare’s Anthony Oluoch.

Sports committee has two new nominees namely Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria) replacing his Mathioya counterpart Edwin Mugo, with Yatta’s Robert Ngui set to replace Kibra’s Peter Orero.
Mugo has been moved to the Tourism committee – where Munyoro was initially posted.
The Mathioya MP has also landed a slot in the Public Accounts Committee initially held by Maragua MP Mary Wamaua, who is now posted to PIC on Social Services.
Tana River Woman Rep Amina Dika is set to replace Makadara’s George Aladwa on the Social Protection committee. Also joining the committee are Seme MP James Nyikal, and Bensuda.
Wangwe has been moved to the PIC on Social Services, Administration, and Agriculture from the PIC on Governance and Education. He is set to replace Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.
Nyandarua MP Faith Gitau has been appointed to the Special Funds committee alongside Mwingi West’s Charles Ngusya.
The changes have also affected the Decentralised Funds Account, Public Debt, and other select committees.
At the Decentralised Funds Account committee, Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Rep Caroline Ng’elechei, MP is set to replace Uasin Gishu’s Sitienei Janet Jepkemboi.
